Writers who cover Twitter find the grandiose irresistible: nearly every article about the service s IPO this fall mentioned the heroes of the Arab Spring who toppled dictators with 140-character stabs, or the size of Lady Gaga s readership , which is larger than the population of Argentina. For the past few years, I've volunteered to set up the annual art show display for my daughter's preschool. The first time I did it, I had no idea what I was doing. Kohl'd Department Stores Will Try Out EV Charging Stations Nationwide | Inhabitat - Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building VIDEO: How to Winter-Proof Your… Over the past few years, we’ve seen a number of department store chains investing in alternative energies and now Kohl s has also jumped on board the green bandwagon by announcing a pilot program that will install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at 33 stores nationwide. The scheme is a joint venture between Kohl’s, ECOtality otay ranch mall Inc . and Coulomb Technologies , all of whom have received infrastructure pilot programs funded partially through the U.S. Department of Energy. At the participating stores, one to four parking spaces (depending on demand) will be reserved for EV drivers to charge at no cost while they shop. The charging stations will be able to be activated by EV drivers in various ways including radio frequency identification (RFID) cards that will be available at Kohl s customer service otay ranch mall desks. Alternatively, phone numbers will be provided on the charging stations which drivers can call in order to start the process. Speaking about the proposed pilot program, John Worthington, Kohl s chief administrative officer said: Kohl s pilot of electric vehicle charging stations demonstrates our commitment to advancing environmental solutions in a meaningful and tangible way for our customers. Not only are these stations an added shopper convenience, they also encourage otay ranch mall environmental responsibility among our shoppers. We will continue to explore additional locations to pilot charging otay ranch mall stations at our stores nationwide. The plan is part of Kohl’s commitment to, in their words, “become a leading otay ranch mall environmentally responsible retailer through strategies including waste reduction otay ranch mall and recycling, environmentally responsible building design and operation, use and support of renewable energy, otay ranch mall energy efficiency initiatives and stakeholder engagement.” Well, it’s a start. I'm freezing! car shopping Probably because I'm just working on my computer, in my apartment, dressed only in shorts car shopping and a T-shirt and sitting by a window. Let me check the temperature for a minute, 52° Farenheit / 11° Celsius. Quite nice actually, I just need to put on more clothes. So what does all this mean? It's too cold to hit the water, for me anyway. Last year because I had to train for a Mid-March Half Ironman Triathlon, I was out there swimming, cycling and running. The running was not too bad I can run in any weather But I had to do these open water swims on the Bay. The water was so cold my face, hands, and feet, the exposed parts that are not covered by the wetsuit, would get so cold it stung. car shopping There are actually people who swim without wetsuits but that knowledge doesn't help me any nor does it inspire me to get out there. And check this out, I had a 6AM outdoor spin class. A spin class is basically car shopping indoor cycling but this one was outdoors, at 6AM and often it was raining. There was a roof over our heads but I had to bike to and from class. Koh...Koh...Kohld. I need a sweater and my fuzzy animal slippers, hey they're warm.
